DOM crews intervene in emergencies due to heavy rains throughout the country

The Directorate of Municipal Works (DOM) has joined the alert call of the Government of President Nayib Bukele due to the intense rains and storms this weekend at the national level in coordination with the National Civil Protection System and the 44 municipalities of the country.

As a result of this effort, the DOM crews intervened, among other activities, in a collapse of a wall on the street that leads to the Joya del Matazano canton, Los Cimientos hamlet in the Yamabal district in the municipality of Morazán Sur, in the east of the country.

At least 40 DOM workers with appropriate equipment and machinery and in coordination with the Morazán Sur mayor’s office, removed the debris and cleared the blocked road. Fortunately, there were no victims to report.

To respond in a timely manner, DOM technical personnel and crews remain active in different areas of the country to contribute to the National Civil Protection System, made up of entities such as the Armed Forces, National Civil Police and the Fire Department.

The DOM teams are made up of auxiliaries, foremen and technical personnel, who have been on guard since Thursday night to respond to calls for help, especially in the coastal areas of the country.

According to Civil Protection, this notice is given based on Special Report No. 5, issued by the General Directorate of the Threat Observatory of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) on June 13, 2024 at 11: 30 am, which refers to a possible storm for next weekend.

The report indicates that: “the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) on the coasts of Central America and a large area of ​​low pressure or depression field, which will maintain rains and storms in different periods with intermittence.

According to the MAR analysis, the threat of recurring rains will continue in front of and on the coasts of El Salvador, providing humidity, and in combination with the depression field, the rains will continue from Thursday and will continue this Friday and the weekend, the which will extend -mainly- in the coastal sector and volcanic mountain range.

These rains and storms will be persistent and intermittent and a notable and significant increase in the amount of rain and a storm is expected in the Salvadoran territory during the weekend.
