The Directorate of Public Works (DOM) began this Friday, June 14, the construction of a walkway over the Apanta River in the Santa Cruz La Loma canton of the Santiago Nonualco district, municipality of La Paz Centro, a work that will benefit more than 300 people.
The execution of this project adds to the more than 8,500 works that the DOM has carried out in the 262 districts of the country in its two years of existence, which motivates its staff to continue in the right direction.
The work, which will be 20 meters long and 2 meters wide, will be complemented with the improvement of 535 meters of local road that connects from the main street of the El Carrizal canton to the school center of the Santa Cruz Loma canton, which is quite rugged at the same time. It has a surface of earth and stone and crosses the Apanta River, whose flow increases with the rains.

As part of the solution, the project that will employ more than 45 inhabitants of the area in compliance with the mandate of President Bukele, began with technical studies to know the load capacity of the soil, in addition to other studies and topographic survey of the area to carry out the design of the drainage work.
It contemplates the construction of cyclopean concrete walls in the vicinity of the pedestrian bridge, drainage pipes and construction of headers.
Due to the viability of the works, the works will begin with the construction of the accesses to facilitate the transfer of materials and then continue with the main work: the walkway.

Crews will also work on compacted fill for soil leveling, as well as granular subbase, bridge concrete, sidewalks, cyclopean concrete walls or stone bonded with cement mix, gutters and guardrails.
With these works, more than 300 inhabitants of the El Carrizal canton of Santiago Nonualco will benefit, who for decades have required safe streets and access on their way to their places of study and work, which, due to lack of them, the price has been the loss of human lives, a situation that causes a lot of pain and that the Government will avoid with the pedestrian bridge.
A similar work, with great social impact, is also built by the DOM at kilometer 20 of the Pan-American Highway in the district of San Pedro Perulapán in Cuscatlán Norte, where one of the main purposes is to offer safe passage to the inhabitants of the area especially to children, the elderly and pregnant women.

In Santiago Nonualco, this Administration is also reconstructing 400 linear meters on El Progreso Avenue in the San Juan neighborhood, which provides access to the city center, the tourist plaza and schools, which is also an interdepartmental route for public transportation.
With works like these, the Government brings progress and raises the quality of life of the inhabitants, but also protects them, since, in the past, the lack of these accesses has caused mourning and pain to the affected families, so the Efficient management of public funds is a clear example that money is enough when no one steals.
