WASHINGTON – US presidential candidate from the Republican Party, Donald Trump has said he told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at their last meeting in July to immediately end Israel’s war on Gaza. But he has also criticized demands for a ceasefire.

True. Trump wants to end the Gaza war.

“He (Netanyahu) knows what he’s doing, I urge him to get this done quickly,” Trump told reporters at a news conference yesterday. “It has to be done quickly. … Take your victory and get it done. The killing has to stop.”

Trump was referring to his meeting with Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago residence in late July, when Netanyahu visited the United States. He also met with President Joe Biden and Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris during the trip.

2. Stopping the Risk of Regional War

There is a growing risk of a wider war in the Middle East after Israel killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran and Hezbollah military commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut. Both men threatened retaliation against Israel. While Tel Aviv claimed responsibility for Shukr’s killing, it has not commented on Haniyeh’s killing.

In a speech on tackling anti-Semitism, Trump criticized Biden and Harris’ months-long calls for a ceasefire in Gaza.

3. Attacking Kamala Harris

“Harris is working to tie Israel’s hands, demanding an immediate ceasefire, always demanding a ceasefire,” Trump said, adding that it would “only give Hamas time to regroup and launch new attacks like October 7th.”

Trump added: “I will give Israel the support it needs to win, but I want them to win quickly.”

Trump also called pro-Palestinian supporters who call for an end to U.S. support for Israel’s genocidal wars “pro-Hamas thugs” and “jihadist sympathizers.” He threatened to arrest and deport them from the country if he becomes president.

Netanyahu and Trump’s offices separately denied an Axios report that they had spoken earlier in the day about a ceasefire in Gaza and hostage release talks.
