One of the most important religious dates in the North of Chile has arrived, the Fiesta de La Tirana. That is why the 17th International Festival of Theatre and Dance FINTDAZ did not want to miss this significant tradition and, through its digital platform fintdaz.cl, is exhibiting the short documentary “Diablos Rojos – La danza de los rebeldes” by El Otro Enfoke Films, which can be viewed for free.
The Iquique audiovisual that also provides a perspective of what the so-called loose devils do during the San Lorenzo festival, tells the story told by its own protagonists, those dancing demons that unfold in this very multitudinous celebration, in which not only the community of the Tarapacá region is present, but also thousands of pilgrims from all over the national territory arrive annually to the town of the same name, located in the commune of Pozo Almonte.
Project organized by the Antifaz Professional Theater Company and funded by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, through the Program to Support Collaborating Cultural Organizations (PAOCC), Call 2023; National Fund for the Promotion and Development of the Performing Arts, Festivals and Career Meetings Line, Call 2024; Law of Cultural Donations and the Doña Inés de Collahuasi Mining Company.
Celebration
Fintdaz’s general director, Abraham Sanhueza López, commented that “part of our culture as Tarapacá residents is the celebration of the Virgin of La Tirana, a tradition that we want to value and emphasize as an example of our customs, so this month we wanted to program a virtual work that addresses this theme.”
Regarding the virtual platform, the cultural manager said that “every month we have a work, documentary or film that can be enjoyed for free and at any time. It is a showcase that the pandemic gave us and that we have maintained over time as a channel of connection with the digital community.”
The entire program for the seventeenth edition of the festival is available at www.fintdaz.cl and on social media Facebook and Instagram as @fintdazchile.
