Documentary “Health Brigades: Another way to fight”
“I had never seen the pellets.”
This repeated phrase from health personnel who belonged to the brigades reflects the use of lethal weapons that generated very serious injuries, both to people who were actively demonstrating and to those who participated, or simply passed through the place, during the state repression of the protests. within the framework of the social outbreak of October 18, 2019.
In the annals of history there are no mutilations as serious and massive as the ocular traumas; which at the national level reached more than 460 cases. In the face of this violence, dozens of health brigades were organized throughout Chile, which formed an alternative and self-managed health system on the streets, in contexts of state violence, often putting their own physical and mental integrity at risk.
It is, without a doubt, an experience of “doing” health on the streets in times of urgency, caring for the victims of repression with the elements that were available.
The documentary “Health Brigades: Another way to fight”, made by Diego Sabatini Verdejo, accompanies the book “Health Brigades. Memories of Resistance and Solidarity. Social Outbreak – October 2019”, by researchers Ana López Dietz and María Rosa Verdejo Rodríguez.
