Vienna’s craftsmanship celebrates success in the USA: The documentaries about Viennese butchers, bakers and confectioners received the Silver Award at the US International Film Festival in LA

Vienna (OTS) – Vienna’s craftsmanship in moving images: Two documentaries produced by Alexander and Nadeschda Schukoff, which were created in collaboration with the State Guild for the Food Industry of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce (WK Wien), each won a prize at the renowned US International Film Festival in Los Angeles. The films “Wiener Schnitzel und andere Festtagsgerichte / Festive Treats of the Viennese Cuisine” and “Süße Weihnachten in Wien / Christmas Baking in Vienna” were awarded the Silver Award.

Josef Angelmayer, guild master of the food industry at the Vienna Chamber of Commerce: “The documentaries shed light on the traditional craft of Viennese butchers, bakers and confectioners and offer in-depth insights into tradition and culture. The awards in Los Angeles are further proof of the high quality of our companies.”

Viennese holiday dishes win film award, Viennese Christmas bakery wins another award

The documentary “Wiener Schnitzel and other holiday dishes” won the coveted Silver Award at the US International Film Festival in Los Angeles, “Sweet Christmas in Vienna” has already won a prize at the Deauville Green Awards film festival in France in 2023, thus continuing its success story. Angelmayer: “This recognition shows the world class of our craft and our culinary traditions. We are proud of the award-winning films and our Viennese craftsmanship.”

Love for Viennese craftsmanship

Schukoff’s love for Viennese craftsmanship arose during a film project for the ORF about the Viennese bread roll – “a cultural documentary that tells the story of the bread roll, with a focus on craftsmanship,” says Alexander Schukoff. The film was a success – and a spark. Works about other master craftsmen followed, such as goldsmiths, soap makers, watchmakers, butchers and, most recently, confectioners. They were and are shown on domestic television and internationally.

Looking over the shoulders of masters

“In his films, Schukoff looks over the shoulders of the master craftsmen with love,” says Angelmayer. The creative couple is not lacking in ideas for the future. Alexander and Nadescha Schukoff are currently working on a new production about Vienna City Hall, which will present the diverse crafts that play an important role in both the construction and maintenance of the historic building. This documentary is due to be completed by the end of the year and will once again focus on Vienna’s excellent craftsmanship.
