Documentary about “The United People” will premiere in April

What makes a song become an anthem? In 1973, months before the Coup d’état in Chile, the prominent musician Sergio Ortega together with the historic band Quilapayún, composed “The united people will never be defeated.”

It was in response to the critical political and social mood that existed at the time, which led to a 17-year dictatorship.

This song crossed borders and began to spread throughout different countries, being re-released more than 120 times and in more than 25 languages. But what made it become an anthem?

“Although it is a song that has had a very important circulation, it has not been limited to a particular musical style. It adapts, it fixes, it modifies. It has roots in choral music spaces and also among bands closer to punk and ska,” says Farías.

In this documentary, the viewer will be able to learn different testimonies from musicians from all over the world, who took the song and made it their own through a universal slogan.
