Macondo Konzerte, CineClub Sala Sazié and the Cineteca of the University of Chile, will present the special screening of “Un Río que no Cesa de Sintar”, by the Argentine singer-songwriter, guitarist, poet and writer, Atahualpa Yupanqui, who died in 1992. The exhibition of This restored film will feature the participation of national artists Manuel García and Ismael Oddó, a member of Quilapayún.

“A river that never stops singing” is an autobiographical documentary, in which Atahualpa Yupanqui travels through his homeland and the places that inspired his work. It was the trans-Andean artist himself, who worked on the script and story that gave rise to this three-week journey through the places he had traveled on horseback during his youth. On the trip he made with a German television team in 1985, they visited places such as Cerro Colorado, Jujuy and the Argentine Pampa, among others.

This documentary, released in the same year 1985, was produced by Macondo Films, Alfredo Troncoso, SWF Baden Baden, GmbH and West Deutscher Fernsehen Köln, with the direction of José Montés Baquer.

The restoration of the film, made from the 16mm originals, allowed us to obtain a new corrected version in 4K with processes developed in the laboratories of the Cineteca of the University of Chile, highlighting the visual richness of a film produced in years of exile which there were no previous antecedents.

The Cineteca of the University of Chile – an academic program belonging to the Faculty of Communication and Image of the same university – is the oldest institution dedicated to audiovisual preservation, and the only public and autonomous one in the country. For its part, the Cine Club Sala Sazié is one of its mediation activities, and is carried out with the support of the Vice-Rector’s Office for Extension and Communications of the Casa de Bello.
