Doctors terminated a healthy woman’s pregnancy after confusing her with another patient

It became known that on March 25, two patients were admitted to the gynecology and obstetrics clinic. One came for a routine pregnancy check-up, the second was waiting for an operation, which is performed to treat a disease of the uterus, but can also be used to terminate a pregnancy. Both girls do not speak Czech, and there was no translator at the hospital.

Due to a fatal accident, doctors performed surgery on a pregnant woman. According to some reports, the procedure is called curettage.

As a result, the woman lost a healthy child. According to the director of the Czech Patients’ Union, Lubos Oleyar, the hospital management was silent all week and did not apologize to the victim. He believes that the reason for the error could be a lack of qualified personnel.

Later, the clinic reported that it had suspended all doctors who might be involved in the tragedy. The victim and her entire family were promised compensation. The Czech Ministry of Health also expressed sympathy for the patient. Investigators are now looking into the reasons for the terrible error.
