A laborer named Shariful Islam Batul (40) was publicly beaten to death by being tied to a tree in Shailkupa, Jhenaidah. It has been alleged that he was tortured to death in a premeditated manner in Gramya Shalish.
The incident took place at Sardarpara of Shailkupar Sheikhpara village on Monday (April 29) evening. However, till the writing of the report, the police station has not arrested any case or anyone.
The deceased is the son of Tarachand Mandal of Batul Sheikhpara village. He earned his livelihood by driving a van along with working as a hotel worker.
According to local residents, there was a dispute with Shariful Islam Batul over the land of his cousins Rahim, Liton and Rahman of the same village. An arbitration meeting was organized on Monday afternoon. Batul had an argument with his cousins there. At one point, Batul was tied to a tree near the house along with bribes and subjected to medieval torture. Shariful died on the way to Kushtia Medical College Hospital around 9 pm when he fell ill.
Batul’s mother Achiran Necha told Jago News that Bakul is the matbar of Jowarddar village. It was on his call that this arbitration and planned assault took place.
The statement of the accused was not available as they were absconding in this incident.
Shailkupa Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Safiqul Islam Chaudhuri said that a man named Batul was beaten to death in Sheikhpara of Shailkupa. The police believe that it may have happened due to a dispute over land between drug dealers and associates. As no complaint was filed till Tuesday evening, the police did not file a case.
