Hanoi City Police coordinated with the Criminal Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) to uncover the network of buying and selling 1.2 billion VND of 1 kidney, criminally detaining 7 related subjects.
The above line is led by Pham Van Hung (born 1983, residing in Bo De ward, Hanoi). Hung and 6 other subjects are being detained by the Hanoi City Police Department for the act of buying and selling human body parts.
According to the investigation, Hung and other subjects realized that many patients being treated for kidney failure had a high demand for buying and selling kidneys for transplant, so they organized brokers to buy and sell kidneys to benefit.
These subjects posted articles on the social network Facebook to find liver and kidney donors, along with phone numbers for them to contact. After that, this group informed the person who wanted to buy a kidney for 1.2 billion VND per kidney, and related costs were paid by the buyer.
For kidney sellers, the subjects took them to the hospital for examination, health assessment, and testing of indicators for transplant. Once they found a seller or buyer qualified to perform the transplant, the subjects guided the seller to complete the paperwork for the hospital to transplant the organs.
After completing the purchase, the subjects paid the seller 450-550 million VND, and the remaining amount was shared among the subjects. Notably, the subjects frequently changed residence and mainly used social networks for transactions to avoid being detected by the authorities.
During the investigation, from the beginning of 2024 until now, Pham Van Hung and his accomplices have brokered the sale of kidneys for about 25 to 30 successful transplant couples at large hospitals in Hanoi City.
