Discussions on trade and investment relations between Libya and Britain

The Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohammed Al-Hawaij, discussed with the British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Longden, the mechanism for activating the Libyan-British follow-up committee, and ways to develop trade and investment relations between the private sectors in both countries.

The Ministry of Economy stated on its Facebook page that the meeting reviewed the file of British companies operating in Libya and addressed their legal and financial situations.

Al-Hawaij indicated that the Ministry is following up on the file of British companies and has referred their financial situations to the Council of Ministers of the National Unity Government and the relevant authorities so that they can resume their work on contracted projects in all regions.

Al-Hawaij stressed that the United Kingdom is one of the most important trading partners of the State of Libya. He also expressed the desire of the Libyan government to strengthen relations with the British government at all levels, and to create an economic partnership that contributes to achieving economic stability and sustainable development in the State of Libya.

Al-Hawaij expressed the Ministry’s readiness to provide possible facilities to companies and investors from the United Kingdom, and to work with government economic institutions in the Kingdom to organize official visits and bilateral meetings that include business owners with the aim of creating real partnership opportunities between the private sectors in both countries.

For his part, the British Ambassador expressed his country’s desire to strengthen trade and investment relations with Libya, and the keenness of British companies to resume their work on contracted projects.

Minister Al-Hawaij asked the Department of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation to coordinate with the Commercial Office of the British Embassy regarding activating the Libyan-British Follow-up Committee and arranging official visits with the participation of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and the Employers Council.
