Aziz Akhannouch, Prime Minister, received, Thursday in Rabat, Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), who is visiting the Kingdom on the occasion of its hosting of the 33rd session of the FAO Regional Conference for Africa, from April 18 to 20 in the capital.

According to the government’s statement, the two parties discussed mechanisms to strengthen various strategic aspects of the permanent partnership between Morocco and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, which manages a portfolio of projects in the Kingdom with a financial value estimated at $22 million, concerned with sustainable agriculture and the development of the rural world, in addition to urgent interventions.

The communication, a copy of which was obtained by Hespress, added that the nature of the technical support provided by this international organization to Morocco was praised, which has witnessed a remarkable development by moving from implementing field projects in response to specific needs to a strategic partnership based on a programmatic approach.

In this regard, Aziz Akhannouch reviewed Morocco’s attention, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, to agriculture and the rural world to achieve integrated development and create added value, through strategies based on restructuring agriculture, raising productivity, making investment at the core of the agricultural equation, and paying attention primarily to human capital.

For his part, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations praised the Moroccan experience in the field of agriculture and food industries, considering that “the agricultural strategies adopted by the Kingdom during the past twenty years, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, can be a model for others to emulate.” Various African countries.

Qu Dongyu added, “The organization aims to develop the partnership with Morocco, so that African countries can benefit from it.”

The meeting touched on the importance of the FAO Regional Conference for Africa, which the government harnessed all capabilities to make it a success and make it an opportunity to exchange best practices, explore partnerships, and discuss innovative solutions regarding agricultural and food systems.
