Fifty-one years after the military coup by General Augusto Pinochet against the constitutional government of President Salvador Allende, the NGO Daughters and Sons of Exile invites you to discover its arpilleras and listen to the stories of memories of exile and return.

These are invisible stories of children and minors who experienced political repression and state terrorism.

“Through this type of commemorative activity 51 years after the military coup, we are making exile visible as a violation of human rights, placing emphasis on children and minors who were displaced along with their parents, who were forced to leave the country due to political repression,” explains Carmen Muñoz, president of the NGO.

“Exile caused serious traumas and experiences in a large population of children, whose rights were violated and who suffered political violence, isolation from family ties, stigmatization, discrimination, psychophysical illnesses, statelessness, among other harms and humiliations,” she says.

For her, there is a debt on the part of the Chilean State in recognition and reparation, to all those children and minors who suffered the consequences of State political repression, caused by the civil-military dictatorship in Chile.
