Discoverer of Bílá Petr Hannig: He needs devices to live

Hannig he is hospitalized in the renowned Malvazinky Rehabilitation Clinic at NIP – department of subsequent inpatient intensive care. Only seriously ill patients, whose basic vital functions fail and need the help of breathing apparatus, lie here. There are patients with serious disorders of consciousness after a head injury or after bleeding in the brain. And these are all people for whom it is assumed that the current condition is long-term and will not improve.

As Petra Plutnarová, spokeswoman for the Malvazinky clinic, points out: “Although there are patients requiring intensive care in the NIP ward, this ward in Malvazinky is clearly one of the best in the Czech Republic with a high percentage of patients returning to an active life.”

Hannig was transferred from the Central Military Hospital in Prague to the NIP, where the care is covered by health insurance, where he was fighting for his life after a stroke and apparently with bleeding in the brain. “We have daily visits, restrictions only occur if the patient’s condition requires it or in case of infection risks,” says Plutnarová.

Hannig’s stay at the clinic was arranged by his son Jan (52), who arrived from America, where he lives, immediately after his father’s collapse in May. Jan loves his father, who raised him alone because his mother died when he was 16.

Jan left for the USA in 1994, settled in North Carolina, where he completed his doctoral studies and is now a professor of mathematics at the Department of Statistics at the world-famous University in Chapel Hill. He married there, marrying Shevaun, who is a direct descendant of the second American president in history, John Adams (1735 – 1826). He has two children with her, making Hannig a double grandfather. “I am a happy father, father-in-law and grandfather. I thank life for that. And I also have a wonderful girlfriend. I don’t miss anything, just let health serve me” Hannig said five years ago.
