Foreign affairs have continuously consolidated “position and strength”, expanded friendly relations and cooperation with neighboring countries, regions, traditional friends, strategic partnership networks, and comprehensive partnerships with 30 countries; closely and effectively coordinated with defense, security and other foreign forces…
At the same time, diplomacy constantly strengthens national solidarity, cares for and mobilizes the overseas Vietnamese community to actively contribute to building the homeland and country, and spreads Vietnam’s soft power to the world through cultural diplomacy and foreign information.
The coordination of the three pillars of Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people’s diplomacy, the activities of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, the work of building the diplomatic sector, especially Party building, has made important contributions to the country’s foreign affairs achievements.
Strengthening diplomacy in the new era
Emphasizing that the world is in a period of epochal change, General Secretary and President To Lam pointed out that our country is standing at a new historical starting point, a new era, an era of the Vietnamese people’s rise.
The General Secretary and President suggested that in the coming time, foreign affairs work needs to be proactive and timely in detecting opportunities and challenges, contributing to the successful implementation of the 100-year strategic goals under the Party’s leadership and the 100th anniversary of the country’s founding.
At the same time, raise the level and expand Vietnam’s contributions to peace, cooperation, development and progress of humanity, strongly spread the “independent, self-reliant, peaceful, cooperative, friendly, developed, prosperous and happy version of Vietnam”; build a team of diplomatic staff who are both red and professional.

The entire industry also needs to build and consolidate new-era diplomacy, in which the highest goal is to “ensure the highest national and ethnic interests, for a strong Party, for a prosperous socialist Vietnam, with an important position and role in world politics, the global economy and human civilization, for the prosperity and happiness of the people”.
Along with that, it meets the requirements of connecting the country with the world, the nation with the times, and proactively participating in solving common world problems.
On the basis of the principles of steadfastly following the Party’s leadership and socialism, independence, autonomy, self-confidence, self-reliance, national pride, multilateralization, diversification, for peace, cooperation and development, proactively and actively integrating comprehensively and deeply into the world, new-age diplomacy adheres to the mottos of “responding to all changes with constancy”, “peace and friendship”, “using benevolence to replace violence”, “making more friends, reducing enemies”.
With the method of closely combining the three pillars of Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people’s diplomacy, linking diplomacy with the people’s hearts, bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, political, economic, international law, foreign information tools, new-age diplomacy will also focus on the key points of economic diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, environmental diplomacy, human rights diplomacy, information, closely combining the three pillars of diplomacy with national defense and security.
Recalling President Ho Chi Minh’s words “…the best way to use troops is to fight with strategy, the second is to fight with diplomacy, the third is to fight with troops”, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that in the new era, Vietnamese diplomacy must rise to new heights to fulfill new glorious responsibilities, worthy of being the “vanguard”, making important contributions to the cause of building, developing the country and defending the Fatherland.
Receiving the direction of General Secretary and President To Lam, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son requested the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to seriously grasp and effectively implement the direction with the highest determination and effort, contributing to the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.
