Diosdado Cabello, controversial Chavista leader, will be the Interior Minister in Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro said.
This after announcing that there will be changes in his cabinet, one month after his disputed re-election.
Diosdado Cabello returns to the post of minister 22 years after serving in that position during the government of the late socialist leader Hugo Chávez.
On the other hand, the Venezuelan vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, will take over the strategic Ministry of Petroleum.
Rodríguez was confirmed as vice president, a position she assumed in 2018 and placed her first in the line of succession.
Nicolás Maduro announced “a renewal of half of the executive cabinet,” including the appointment of Diosdado Cabello.
“Changes are necessary in different ministries to accommodate the strength of the popular government, revolutionary and socialist Venezuela,” Maduro said.

The socialist was proclaimed re-elected for a third six-year termamid allegations of fraud.
The Venezuelan opposition claims to have proof of its victory.
