Sunscreen should be applied about 20 minutes before going outside so that your skin can “absorb” it. After that, it is recommended to reapply the cream every two to four hours, especially if the person is outdoors for a long time.
Publika.az dermatologist-cosmetologist Kristina Togoyeva told Gazeta.ru these words. According to the expert, you should reapply sunscreen more often after swimming or getting out of the water because the water can wash it off the skin.
“Studies show that waterproof products last 40 minutes, and ultra-waterproof products last 80 minutes. But even if you use a more water-resistant cream, you still need to reapply every two to four hours to protect your skin from the sun,” – the expert said.
Togoyeva noted that to effectively protect the skin from the sun’s rays, it is necessary to apply enough sunscreen. You need about 1/4 teaspoon for the face and about six teaspoons for the whole body. In general, it is recommended to use about 30 ml of cream to completely cover the skin of an adult. To ensure the maximum protection of the skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays, it is necessary to apply a protective agent in a dense layer and spread it evenly over the entire surface of the skin.
“You should not save on the quantity of the product either. If you apply the second layer 10-15 minutes after the first to make sure that all areas of the skin are covered with the product, you will protect your skin twice,” Togoyeva concluded.
