Instead of athletes, the headquarters of the tennis and skiing associations were surrounded by detectives. They examined the management and redistribution of subsidies, tennis boss Ivo Kaderka (60) and three other officials face charges!
They have been collecting evidence for a year, police officers from the National Headquarters against Organized Crime arrived at Štvanice yesterday morning at nine o’clock. They sealed the entrance, searched the offices and confiscated materials. “The police have initiated criminal prosecution against four natural persons and four legal entities for the crime of subsidy fraud and the crime of obtaining an advantage in the awarding of a public contract,” stated state representative Lenka Bradáčová. During the evening, according to Blesk, a fifth name was added – Daniel Vacek. Abuse of subsidies is punishable by up to ten years in prison, and up to eight years for arranging benefits.
The newspaper N reported that the president of the tennis association Ivo Kaderka is among the accused. The case also concerns Kaderko’s ally Vojtěch Flégl, it was to his companies that part of the subsidy money was supposed to flow. “The legal qualifications are not identical for all accused persons,” mentioned state representative Ondřej Trčka, who also oversees another case of sports subsidies – the case of the former head of football Miroslav Pelta and the head of the Czech Sports Union Miroslav Jansta.
Saint in the viewfinder
At the same time, detectives also intervened in several tennis clubs across the country. For example, in the famous Prostejov club with Miroslav Černošek, they also went to Říčany to inquire about information from the past, where Karolína Plíšková’s academy is currently operating. And also in Střešovice, where the ski association is based. Here, the raid concerns subsidies for last year’s World Cup in downhill skiing in Špindlerův Mlýn. “We provided maximum cooperation to the police of the Czech Republic. No one has been charged or arrested.” said union spokesman Tomáš Haisl.
Investigators also came to the National Sports Agency. “We were invited to submit documents. I have nothing to add to the police investigation.” said NSA chairman Ondřej Šebek for iSport.cz.
Will he go to jail?
Ivo Kaderka was rounded up by the police at home. According to the law, in the case of a detained person, the public prosecutor must file a motion for detention within 48 hours. If the head of Czech tennis really ended up behind bars, it would be the clinical death of the association. After all, Kaderka ČTS has ruled with a heavy hand since 1998 and – with a bit of exaggeration – in the Štavan offices without it, the cleaning lady can’t even take out the basket.
