Shopian Shopian, Highlighting the historical importance of Shopian district, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary today directed for expeditious work on development projects, with special focus on connectivity and horticulture sectors. The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking during a review meeting held at the Mini Secretariat Shopian here to assess the progress of various development projects and schemes being implemented in the district. Wachi MLA Shaukat Hussain Ghani and Shopian MLA Shabir Kulle, besides heads of various departments and regional officers attended the meeting. Shopian Deputy Commissioner Shishir Gupta presented a detailed description of the development scenario and ongoing works in the district. Reviewing the status of projects of Public Works Department (PWD), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, JJM and others, the Deputy Chief Minister stressed the importance of maintaining high quality standards and adhering to project deadlines, expressing concern over delays in some works. He directed the officials to give priority to the pending projects and complete them expeditiously.
The Deputy Chief Minister underlined the importance of timely and quality implementation of infrastructure projects. He directed the officials to strictly follow the technical specifications and safety standards. He also stressed the need for sustainable construction practices to benefit the people of the district in the long term. He asked the officials to accelerate developmental initiatives and enhance public service delivery mechanism. He stressed the importance of being accessible to the public to ensure effective implementation of government initiatives. “We are committed to accelerating the development process and improving infrastructure across the district. Suggestions and feedback from the elected representatives should also be taken into consideration while formulating the plans so that they include local needs and demands,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.
The Deputy Chief Minister called upon the officials to regularly monitor and evaluate all ongoing work to ensure transparency and accountability, while assuring the government’s full support in addressing the challenges, if any. Expressing concern over delays in some works, the Deputy Chief Minister stressed the importance of careful planning and execution. He stressed the need to work with more dedication to complete all the ongoing works with promptness and quality. The Deputy Chief Minister gave a detailed account of the works in progress, and stressed the need to maintain high quality standards at all stages of project execution. He directed the officials to ensure strict adherence to the timelines as well as remove any obstacles hindering timely completion of the projects.
During the meeting, officials provided updates on the progress of various projects and highlighted challenges including lack of funding, land acquisition issues and technical difficulties. The MLAs highlighted issues of public importance related to their respective constituencies. The issues inter alia included expansion of roads under PMGSY and other developmental activities in Zainapora and Shopian, cardiologists in District Hospital Shopian, beautification of Shopian city, land compensation under bypass road construction and other matters. Later, the Deputy Chief Minister inspected the pace of work on the Train Bridge being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 39.41 crore.
