Denmark.- A woman accused of spying for Russian Intelligence arrested in Denmark

MADRID, 11 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Danish Police Intelligence Service (PET) reported this Tuesday the arrest of a Russian citizen accused of spying for the Russian secret services and identified as one of the fundamental pillars of the Russian community in Denmark.

The PET has issued a statement in which it accuses the detainee, resident in Danish territory, of allowing “a foreign Intelligence service to operate in Denmark, including through influence activities,” reports public radio and television DR.

Shortly after hearing the news, the Russian Embassy in Copenhagen has demanded the release of the woman, and has denounced that her arrest is “a blatant provocation” aimed at “intimidating” the Russian community in Denmark, details Ambassador Vladimir Barbin.

According to information from the aforementioned Danish media, the detainee could also be linked to an alleged Russian state fund that finances espionage activities in the country. This fund allegedly has numerous agents infiltrated in public institutions.

The woman is considered one of the main members of the Russian community in Denmark and has received several certificates and honors from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for her efforts on behalf of Russian speakers abroad.
