Demands to add the selham to the Olympic uniform

The official uniform of the Moroccan delegation participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, during the period extending from July 26 to August 11, continues to spark widespread controversy on social media platforms.

Moroccan activists expressed their denunciation of the official uniform announced by the Moroccan Olympic Committee in the past few days, pointing out that its design is ordinary and lacks creativity, and despite the drawing that refers to the star of the Moroccan flag, it does not highlight the national identity nor honor the authentic Moroccan culture and heritage.

Social media users, in various posts, called for the inclusion of the “red tarboosh” and the “Moroccan selham” in the official uniform chosen in the tender requests, with the aim of adding an authentic traditional touch that symbolizes the Moroccan cultural heritage and contributes to promoting and introducing it in an important global event that will attract the attention of the world, the global media, and audiences from all over the world.

Commentators stressed the need to exploit the major events in which Morocco participates in order to highlight the authentic national culture, considering that this also contributes to confronting the campaigns of robbery and theft to which Morocco’s heritage is exposed by the neighboring country.

It is worth noting that the Moroccan delegation participating in the Olympics includes 60 athletes, who will defend the national colors in Paris in 19 different sports.
