The human rights organization Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) says that the killing of Ustad Hidayatullah Lehar from Naseerabad was a target killing related to nationalist activities.
Hidayatullah Lehar was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants in Naseerabad on 16 February 2024.
In the fact-finding report released on the killing of Hidayatullah Lehar at the Karachi Press Club on Monday, the HRCP said that the murder of Hidayatullah Lehar, commonly known as Hidayat Lohar, was apparently committed by someone else. The reason does not appear.
The report also expressed concern over the initial reluctance of the police to register an FIR despite the testimonies of Hidayatullah Lohar’s family and CCTV footage of the incident.
The court has directed to register the FR of the incident almost two weeks after the murder.
Asad Iqbal Butt, Chairperson of the Human Rights Organization, said in a conversation with Independent Urdu that Hidayatullah was not targeted, but it is a long plan. Hidayatullah Lohar has also been kidnapped in the past. This is a merciless step and a violation of human rights, it is an extrajudicial killing. Hidayatullah was a free thinker.
Chairman Asad Iqbal Butt demanded the authorities concerned to unconditionally release the protesters, including Hidayatullah’s two sons, who were detained for protesting against the killing and to grant them the right to freedom of peaceful assembly. to be allowed to use it because of which they were forcibly disappeared twice.

In his column, senior journalist and analyst Dr. Tauseef Ahmad wrote in detail about the attack on Hidayatullah Lohar that two persons who were riding a 125 cc motorcycle suddenly appeared from nowhere and stopped Hidayatullah Lohar on the way. Then one of them made a video call from his smart phone somewhere and showed Hidayat Loharka’s face to someone on the mobile. Perhaps this person confirmed the instruction. One of them shot Hidayat in the face. Hidayatullah was shot three times in the face and one shot hit his neck.
Hidayatullah Lohar was a prominent Sindhi activist and supporter of religious freedom and human rights of Sindhis. He was known for his courageous campaigns on behalf of all the oppressed.
For more than two years, from 17 April 2017 to 28 May 2019, he was abducted and ‘disappeared’ for his activism for the fundamental freedoms of the people of Sindh.
After his release, Lohar said that he was severely tortured. Medical complications and scars on his body confirmed this.
During his abduction, the torch of his sacrifice and dedication was carried by his two daughters Surath and Sasui and led the Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh.
On the other hand, people associated with various circles are raising their voices on the social media website X regarding Hidayatullah’s murder.
