Delémont celebrates its 735th anniversary with Kings Day. In 1289 the Prince-Bishop of Basel Peter Reich of Reichenstein granted the locality a letter of franchise. Delémont was therefore considered a city. An event that occurred last January 6th. Which is why Delémont celebrates this anniversary at the same time as Twelfth Day. A practice that began in 1989, on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the foundation of the city. This now traditional festive meeting pursues another objective: maintaining ties between the authorities and the population. “I think the Delémontaines are linked to this event. There are always several hundred people who participate and appreciate this moment of convivial and simple exchange”, explains municipal chancellor Nicolas Guenin. On the menu of this 2024 edition, which starts this Saturday at 6pm at the Forum St-Georges and entry is free : galette des rois, obviously, but also tea, mulled wine, greetings from the city authorities to the population, and the production of the Union instrumentale de Delémont. /comm-tbe
