Before the start of the World Cup, some were talking about doing well in Afghanistan. But many people could not trust that much. After two matches of Afghanistan in the World Cup, now they must have some confidence in the team.
Afghanistan started the World Cup with a big win against Uganda in the first match. Then on Saturday they lost to New Zealand. Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan is overjoyed after this match. He said that he has brought happiness to the people of the country.
Rashid said, “The fans (in the country) must be celebrating now. I’m sure they’re awake now. Our game usually doesn’t miss. It’s three or four in the morning or one, whatever, they stay awake. Not only in Afghanistan, no matter where in the world, we will watch our game.’
‘This is the beauty of the people of Afghanistan. They give us so much support and love, it gives us extra motivation on the field. We are trying our best to make them more happy. You know, cricket is the biggest source of happiness in Afghanistan.’
Before this, New Zealand did not have many big wins in T20. It was also their first win against the Kiwis. Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s 80 from 56 balls helped the Afghans score 156 runs, then bowled out New Zealand for just 75 runs. At the end of the match, however, Rashid gave credit to everyone.
“I am sure this is one of the best wins in our history, especially in T20,” he said. We don’t have this kind of victory in T20 World Cup. In ODIs, but in T20s I think it’s one of the best performances from the boys. Here, not just one person, but the whole team has performed together.’
‘Now we have to beat our opponents with our own skills without thinking too much about them. All I would say to the boys is that they should look after themselves. It doesn’t matter who our opponent is; The real thing is how good you are, how much you can do on the field and what energy you have.’
