ASSUMPTION. The epidemiological scenario in the country shows apparent relief with a decrease in dengue notifications in recent weeks, according to the report from the General Directorate of Health Surveillance. With 26,048 cases recorded in the last three weeks, and a total of 292,374 so far this year, the territory appears to be experiencing a respite compared to previous peaks.
Despite this decline, concern persists, especially in the departments of Central, Itapúa, Alto Paraná, Misiones, Paraguarí, Caaguazú, Guairá and Ñeembucú, as well as Asunción, which represent 83% of recent notifications. The report highlights that 42% of dengue cases affect children, with the 5- to 9-year-old group being the most vulnerable.
In terms of hospitalizations, 1,091 suspected cases of arbovirus were recorded in the last three weeks, with 30% diagnosed with dengue and a small percentage entering intensive care. 18% of hospitalized patients have comorbidities, which increases the risk of serious complications.
Although no deaths due to dengue have been reported in the last three weeks, health authorities urge the population to keep their guard up. From the State portfolio they emphasize the importance of preventive measures such as the elimination of mosquito breeding sites and timely medical consultation in the event of any symptoms.
