The special works council scheduled for Thursday at Decathlon in Evere ended just after three o’clock without much result. The parties will meet again on May 7. Both the unions and the management of the French sports chain confirm this.

Decathlon Belgium will cut 132 jobs by the end of this year. The chain announced this this week. “The European logistics network of distribution warehouses must be transformed to better meet customer needs,” the sports chain said. “The 132 warehouse workers and managers will be offered new positions within the Decathlon group.”

Barely prepared

The unions have taken full action. On Thursday they attended the special works council in Evere, but without results.

“Not all representatives and elected officials from the works council were present on Thursday,” said the BBTK and ACV Puls unions. “We could hardly have prepared ourselves after the news at the beginning of this week about the 132 dismissals. We have therefore stopped the meeting.”

On May 7, the parties will physically meet in Willebroek for a new special works council. “The physical aspect is a big victory,” the unions said. “In the past, they often had to follow the works councils digitally. Absolutely not fair, nor efficient.”

Taken action

On Thursday, the unions carried out three actions spread across Flanders. The first was in Zaventem. Trade federation Comeos organized an annual HR day there with a focus on ‘Wellbeing at Work’. A Decathlon board member came to speak, which was hypocritical in the eyes of the unions. Around noon they went to the federal parliament. In the afternoon, the unions gathered at the Decathlon headquarters in Evere.
