Death toll from explosion at Italian hydroelectric plant rises to five

One person was killed and five others were wounded, including two children, after gunmen opened fire on a crowd in northeast Washington, DC, on Wednesday, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

The shooting occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. Eastern time in the Carver Langston neighborhood of the US capital, Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith said at a news conference Wednesday night.

Preliminary information indicated that the suspects exited a vehicle and “began shooting into the crowd” outside a residential area, he said.

Two men, a woman, a nine-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, he added.
