In Kalapara of Patuakhali, more than five hundred birds, including pigeons, have died due to poisoning in Dalkhet. Rakayet Ahsan, team leader of Animal Lovers of Kalapara, confirmed this information on Sunday (March 24) evening.
He said that after visiting the scene, I found the fact that more than five hundred birds including pigeons died. I informed the forest department and made the local farmers aware. Hopefully they will be aware of the use of poison in the fields.
According to local sources, farmer Mehdi Sheikh poisoned the fields of Paschim Hajipur village of Nilganj Union of Upazila on Friday. Then several pigeons died. Members of Animal Lovers of Kalapara and members of the Forest Department visited the spot immediately after the incident.
Meskat Miah, the victim, said, I am studying honors in Govt. Mozahar Uddin Biswas Degree College. I also keep several pigeons. 42 pigeons are released from my farm on Saturday morning. I came home around 12 noon and found that 22 pigeons had died. Mehdi Sheikh cultivated pulses behind my house. He mixed poison with rice and sprinkled it in the fields. The pigeon died after coming home from his field.
Ibrahim Shikar, another pigeon farmer in the neighboring area, said that 10 pigeons died in my farm. Many of the pigeons that died had young babies. Now the condition of this baby pigeon is also known. I suffered a lot of losses.
Kamrul Alam, a member of the Kalapara Forest Department, said that he came to the scene and got the truth. These birds have died due to the application of poison in the branches. Informed higher authorities to take legal action.
