Count Paul Buysse has died at the age of 78, Het Laatste Nieuws writes on Sunday. The Antwerp businessman had been “seriously ill” for a year, his entourage told the Flemish newspaper.
Count Paul Buysse was an important figure in the post-war Belgian economy. He made his reputation as a director of the British company Vickers (Rolls-Royce) and the Belgian company Bekaert. He was also a confidant of the Belgian royal family and King Philippe.
He was the father of five children.
He died at his home.
The Federation of Belgian Businesses (FEB) reacted with great sadness to the announcement of the count’s death. He welcomed a particularly esteemed member of the strategic committee of the employers’ organization, with many years of experience both internationally and nationally.
“Paul was a true ‘captain of industry’, with his keen vision and ability to always keep the big picture in mind,” commented Pieter Timmermans, CEO of FEB. “He helped the FEB stay the course. He always encouraged me to carefully analyze international developments and include them in the development of the Belgian business strategy. We will miss his dynamism and his passion for entrepreneurship,” he continued. “On behalf of FEB I wish his family a lot of strength to face this loss. »
