An employee of FrieslandCampina died on Thursday afternoon as a result of an accident at the production plant in the Friesland Gerkesklooster. The employee was trapped between a wall and a vehicle. It is not yet clear how this happened.
A “thorough investigation” has been launched to determine the cause of the crash, the company said.
Emergency services and other employees attempted to free the employee, but these attempts were futile. FrieslandCampina says it is “deeply shocked and defeated” by the incident.
“Our thoughts go out to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased employee and we offer them our most sincere condolences.”
FrieslandCampina is now focusing on post-operative care for employees and the victim’s relatives. The company stresses that safety “is always the top priority” and says it is doing everything it can to “ensure that these types of tragic incidents are avoided in the future.”
