Death by elephant attack while bringing sugar illegally – 2024-03-23 05:57:08

A smuggler named Ainu Mia (40) was killed by an elephant while bringing sugar through the border area in Mymensingh’s Dhobaura.

The incident took place at Jigatla village of Ghoshgaon union at around 12:30 pm on Friday (March 22). The deceased Ainu Mia is the son of deceased Shamsul Haque of that village.

Local Union Parishad member A. Shahid Mia told Jago News that recently sugar is being smuggled from India every day. Around 12:30 pm on Friday, the people of the Garo community passed the border area and handed over the bags of sugar to Ainu Mia. An Ainu fell in front of an elephant while returning with sugar on a bicycle. When he saw the elephant, he wanted to run away, but he could not save himself. The elephant twisted its trunk and severed one of its legs from its body. Ainu Mia died on the spot. When the elephant left, the locals realized that Ainu Mia’s dead body was brought home.

Chairman Md. Harun Or Rashid said, Ainu Mia died after her leg was severed by an elephant attack while fetching stolen sugar.

To inquire about this, the number of Dhobaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) was called several times, but three times he did not receive.
