An eight-foot-long Irrawaddy dolphin has washed up on Kuakata beach in Patuakhali. Elevated skin on its head.
The dolphin was spotted by Jewel Rana, a member of the Dolphin Conservation Committee, at Chaubon Point on Kuakata Beach on Tuesday (June 25) afternoon.
He said it didn’t die long ago. Because the experience of the past days says that it died 12 to 15 hours earlier when it came close.
According to the Kuakata Dolphin Protection Committee, one live and 10 dead dolphins were washed away this year. Earlier last year, 15 dead dolphins were washed up.
Sagarika Smriti, an associate researcher of the EcoFish-2 Bangladesh project of Worldfish, a research institute working on the blue economy of the ocean, coastal environment and biodiversity, told Jago News that the number of living and dead dolphins that have been floating for several days seems like the sea is losing its previous environment. Currently there are no fishermen in the sea. We are working on the cause of death.
Ruman Imtiaz Tushar, team leader of the Kuakata Dolphin Protection Committee, said that members of the Forest Department and Blue-Guard have been informed. Appeal to higher authorities to find out the exact causes of death.
Abul Kalam Azad, Mahipur Range Officer of the Forest Department said, I heard the matter through the Dolphin Protection Committee. We can send our members to quickly cover the soil so that the stench does not spread.
