DC calls for a new internal election electronically

After the Electoral Service yesterday challenged the DC board for not calling elections in the administration of Alberto Undurraga, since only a list led by him was presented, the Supreme Court (TS) of the party expressed that the ruling del Servel made an incorrect interpretation of the law; However, it ordered a new board election to be held by electronic voting this week.

“A direct, universal, secret and informed vote is called for all PDC militants, through an online platform, to decide on the declaration of candidacy for the National Board called “The DC for Chile.” This process will take place on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.,” states the resolution of the party body.

The new online voting would solve the problem

The Supreme Court of the DC established, by the unanimity of its 11 members, both the Law of Political Parties and the Statute of the PDC “empowers the TS to interpret the internal regulations, issuing the resolutions that apply within the scope of its powers.”

“In the opinion of this court, the circumstance of registering a single list for the respective elections, not being the subject of any claim before this Court or before another external jurisdictional body, allows us to conclude that the criterion applied is correct; especially, if the Internal Election Regulations of the Christian Democratic Party are kept in mind, deposited with the SERVEL and which is in force, which regulates in its title III “Procedure for Declaration, Registration, Acceptance, and Rejection of Candidacies for Internal Elections” , which begins with article 5 and has the following wording: “Article 5. Declarations of candidacy, list or uninominal as the case may be, may be made until twenty-four hours of the thirtieth day (…)” the TS of the phalanx states in a document.
