On May 25th, the 13th Samaritan Day took place on the Kaiserwiese in Vienna’s Prater.
Vienna (OTS) – This year’s program was once again a reflection of the diverse activities of the Samaritan Association: In addition to impressive demonstrations of the rescue and therapy dogs, visitors were able to try out the new blue light simulator, learn about life-saving first aid measures and view the latest rescue vehicles, including rescue cars, rescue motorcycles, emergency bikes and quads. The puzzle rally and various competitions also provided entertainment and excitement.
Fun and games for young and old
There was also a rich entertainment program for the younger visitors. The popular children’s songwriter Bernhard Fibich and clown Poppo made children’s eyes shine with their performances. The mascots Sam and Rita were also there again. Punch and Judy shows, face painting, a bouncy castle and a giant wuzzler rounded off the offer.
The guests were treated to culinary delights by the legendary field kitchen of the Samaritan Association and the team from the Samaritan Soup Pot, who offered grilled cevapcici in addition to vegetarian delicacies. The Samaritan Association’s cooperation partner Gourmet Daheim delighted guests with delicious organic curd dumplings with fruity sauces.
Voices from the festival
Dr. Susanne Drapalik, President of the Vienna Samaritan Association, was enthusiastic: “The Samaritan Association Day enables people to experience the Samaritan Association up close. Whether by visiting an ambulance or petting the rescue and therapy dogs – it was nice to see how many people immersed themselves in our world again this year.”
Evelyn Regner, SPÖ Vienna’s top candidate for the European elections: “Emergency services such as the Samaritan Association have been a reliable and indispensable force in our society for decades. They are a valuable pillar of our health, care and social systems. In particular, the employees of the Samaritan Association, who work day and night, are the silent heroes of social cohesion.”
Samaritan Association President Franz Schnabl added: “Without the admirable commitment of volunteers, many things would not be possible in Austria, and the weakest members of society in particular would have to accept major deficits in their everyday lives. But society’s responsibility must not be shifted onto volunteers. I therefore warn against economically liberal plans that want to promote volunteers in sensitive areas such as rescue services, primarily for cost reasons.”
Oliver Löhlein, Managing Director of the Samaritan Association Vienna, summed up: “We are proud to be able to invite you to this special event for the 13th time. The Samaritan Association Day is always a great opportunity to present our diverse range of offerings, provide entertainment and exchange ideas with the people of Vienna.”
Sustainability and gratitude
The “Day of the Samaritan Association” was also a barrier-free eco-event in 2024. Great importance was attached to organic and regional ingredients, climate-friendly mobility, resource conservation and waste avoidance. All meals were free, but voluntary donations were gladly accepted, which benefit the “Suppentopf” social project of the Samaritan Association Vienna and support people affected by poverty.
