The member Israel’s War Cabinet Benny Gantz, whose party is leading the polls, is in the US for meetings with Vice President Kamala Harris and other top US officials, including Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, as the White House is stepping up pressure on Israel to protect civilians in Gaza in its war with Hamas. Although Gantz believes that the war will only end when Hamas is destroyed, he is much more open to dialogue with the Palestinians than Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his ultraconservative partners, highlighting the underlying crisis in the Israeli government.
