The head of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, is facing increasing opposition in his hometown of the city of Misrata, located in western Libya, where political, civil and social forces and leading figures have begun to form forces and alliances to oust him from his position and pave the way for the formation of a new government that will organize general elections in the country.
In the past few days, Misrata witnessed successive meetings and an anti-Dabaiba movement emerged that is still ongoing, led by opponents of the government’s policies and demanding that she step down from power and form a new government.
In this context, the “Misrata Representatives Gathering,” which includes members of Parliament and the Supreme Council of State, demanded, during its meeting with UN envoy Abdullah Batili last weekend, the formation of a mini-government of technocrats to supervise the elections in order to get out of the political impasse.
For its part, the “February 17 Movement” in Misrata announced its agreement with members of the State Council on the importance of having a unified government supervising the elections, and stressed that there must be a unified government after the recent political stagnation, the corruption that is ravaging Libyan state institutions, and the lack of a transparent vision and mechanism for disclosing matters. Government spending.
The “Awlad al-Mahjoub” tribe also announced its rejection of the expected visit by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dabaiba to the city of Misrata and its unwillingness to receive him, and said in a statement that “this visit has negative repercussions and may cause discord.”
In the same context, a few days ago, the “Misrata Leaders Movement” expelled the “Joint Force” loyal to the Dabaiba government from Misrata Airport, after accusing it of corruption and smuggling Libyan gold abroad.
Commenting on this, political analyst Muhammad Al-Raish considered that the recent political movement in the city of Misrata is represented by opponents of the national unity government who do not want it to continue and are demanding the formation of a new government, adding that Al-Dabaiba has gradually begun to lose his popularity and his social incubator in the city, and that there is some consensus. That his government failed to manage the country and was involved in corruption operations and deals with foreign countries and companies, and that Dabaiba only seeks to remain in power in exchange for anything and is working to prevent elections.
He added in a statement to Al Arabiya.net that Al-Dabaiba has become aware that he has lost some support from within the city of Misrata, and that there are disagreements with some of his allies, especially from the Muslim Brotherhood, but he indicated that he derives his strength from outside Libya, especially from the Turkish ally, which is considered one of the powers. Influencing Misrata, as well as the rest of the cities in western Libya, especially the capital, Tripoli, all of them support him in his battle to remain in power.
In Libya, the dispute is still ongoing between the main political parties over the file of forming a new government and the legal foundations for the elections, which has led to a faltering solution and obstructing the passage to elections, despite UN and international attempts to eliminate these disputes.
