Fast bowler Pat Cummins made history in T20 World Cup against Bangladesh. He became the second Australian to score a hat-trick in the Super Eight. This was the seventh hat-trick of T20 World Cup overall. But Augie Pacer did not know that he had a hat trick!
Cummins was the man of the match with 29 runs and 3 wickets in the match which was won by 28 runs in the rain. The Aussie pacer may have reason to think so. The hat-trick took two overs. He took two wickets in the 18th and last two balls of his third over. In the first delivery of the 20th and his last (fourth) over, Tawheed Hridoy, who was in great rhythm, completed the hat-trick. Bangladesh could not go far in the end. Stopped at 140 runs for 8 wickets. Cummins said after the match, ‘I had no idea it was a hat-trick. I know this only after watching it on the big screen. But Hriday was a big wicket. It feels good to stop them.’
Cummins’ previous hat-trick was done by Australian legend Brett Lee. In 2007 that too was against Bangladesh. Besides, 5 other bowlers who have taken hat-trick are – Curtis Kampfer (2021), Wanindu Hasaranga (2021), Kagiso Rabada (2021), Karthik Meiyappan (2022), Josh Little (2022).
