Cuban family with I220-A was deported from the US

MÉRIDA, Mexico -. A Cuban family was deported from the US despite having an open process with the I220-A form.

Guillermo Picos, along with his wife and 13-year-old son, were sent back to Cuba, despite having the I-220A documentation, he assured Telemundo 51Grisel Ybarra, his lawyer.

Ybarra said that the deportation was due to a confusion since the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) scheduled an appointment with them on February 16 on the same day as his first hearing with an immigration judge.

Due to traffic, they arrived late from ICE to the hearing with the judge, who had already ordered their deportation.

The reporter of Telemundo Daniel Benítez, who addressed the case on his YouTube channel, explained that on March 27, ICE summoned them again and what they thought was a routine request ended with their expulsion from the country in less than 24 hours.

The family, who lived in North Carolina, was forced to get on a plane to Miami and from there they were returned to Cuba.

Picos worked as an Uber driver, his wife, in a company that sends remittances, while the teenager was finishing high school.

“The only thing I ask is that they return me back so that my son can fulfill all his dreams and move forward,” Picos said.

Ybarra said, for his part, that: “In the 47 years that I have been practicing, I have never seen a Cuban child be deported.”

Picos and his family arrived in the United States in November 2021 through the southern border. THE asylum request was denied and they were given an I220-A form.
