Cuban actor Carlos Treto has passed away at the age of 70 in Havana, leaving friends, family, and fans in mourning. The news was confirmed on social media, where many fellow actors and performers expressed their sadness and condolences.
Remembering a life in the arts
Carlos Treto was a beloved fixture in the Cuban entertainment industry, well-known for his work on stage and screen. He worked with several theater companies throughout his career, including the Hubert de Blanck Theater Company and the Vital Teatro company.
He also appeared on television, notably in the children’s show Word Soup, the comedy Live the Story, and the soap opera Pending Issues.
Despite his success, Treto remained committed to his craft and continued to work on short films, workshops, and other projects. He was a coordinator for the Caricato Award and presided over the section of actors of the Association of Performing Artists of the UNEAC. In recent years, he also joined the anti-racist activism from the Aponte Commission and the Cuban Color program.
An outpouring of grief
News of Treto’s passing was met with sadness and grief from colleagues and friends.
“Another piece of news causes me deep pain again,” lamented actor Nevalis Quintana Fernández on social media. “A few days ago, colleagues Pancho González and Cirita Santana had warned of his delicate state of health.”
Actor Hector Noas also expressed his sorrow on Facebook, where he wrote that he felt “great sympathy” for his friend and former colleague.
A lasting legacy
Though Treto will be greatly missed, his contributions to Cuban theater and television will never be forgotten. As his fellow performers have noted, he was a talented actor and a generous colleague, always willing to share his knowledge and passion for the arts.
Carlos Treto will be veiled this Sunday at the Playa funeral home, with his burial set for tomorrow at 9:40 am.
