Crucial meeting between Government and transport businessmen in the face of strike threat

ASSUMPTION. The Vice Minister of Labor, César Segovia, confirmed the holding of a tripartite meeting today at 10:00 a.m. between the Ministry of Labor, the Vice Ministry of Transportation and the Center of Passenger Transportation Entrepreneurs of the Metropolitan Area (Cetrapam). The purpose of this meeting is to find solutions that prevent the strike announced by Cetrapam for the 20th, 21st and 22nd of this month.

The meeting, which will take place at the Ministry of Labor, seeks to activate the necessary legal mechanisms to reach an agreement and thus avoid the negative impact that a stoppage of public transportation would generate on citizens. According to Segovia, a ten-day process began to open spaces for dialogue and seek a resolution that benefits all parties involved.

For its part, the Vice Ministry of Transportation warned about the sanctions that could be applied in case of non-compliance with the regulations related to the strike. Emiliano Fernández, head of this institution, pointed out that sanctions could include fines and even the cancellation of services, depending on the level of non-compliance.

In addition, it was reported that 34 companies receive state subsidies for the ticket, with a disbursement of G. 26,310 million until February, estimating a total of about 35 million dollars for the year.

On another front, the Federation of Transporters of the Metropolitan Area (Fetram) and the Single Central of Transport Entrepreneurs of the Metropolitan Area of ​​Asunción (Ucetrama) confirmed that they will not join the strike on May 20. Vice Minister Fernández highlighted that this decision shows that the strike does not have the support of all actors in the sector.

On the other hand, the Federation of Transport Workers (Fetrap) announced that it will not support the strike and proposes to the government to call an international tender for the concession of the public passenger transport service, thus showing an alternative to address the demands of the sector. differently from the announced strike.
