He subsequently participated several times in the Swedish edition of the “Melodi Grand Prix”, or “Melodifestivalen” as it is called, becoming a beloved name for many.

It is all linked to the traditional Spanish celebration los reyes magos, which in Norwegian can be translated as the three wise men, and which has received much criticism from anti-racist activists.
The celebration involves three men who dress up as wise men, one of whom has painted his skin dark, i.e. black face.
This is “Blackface”
The term arose at the end of the 17th century in relation to so-called minstrel shows. It was a form of American theater that helped build and solidify stereotypes about African-American culture and behavior.
The performers were white men who used black makeup to caricature slave song and dance traditions, and the genre was very popular between 1850 and 1870.
By the mid-20th century, however, the genre disappeared, but the fact that some people now use “blackface” is for many a reminder of the slave era.

In the photo mentioned above, the artist’s son is seen smiling next to the person wearing makeup. The comments field is full of criticism aimed at the 49-year-old.
– Red spots all over the body
“Blackface in social media in 2024. Haven’t we moved on? Tragic and disgusting!” writes one user.
“If you were guests you had a choice, stay and accept the blackface/racism, otherwise you could have taken the kids and left,” another wrote.

“I really hope you explain to your kids what is problematic about blackface. You are a public figure, a mother and a role model. It’s 2024 and we need to understand that people react and criticize racism without batting an eyelid,” writes a third user.
The artist doesn’t seem to take the criticism to heart, because she herself believes in Expressen that the criticism is aimed at the wrong person.
The image attracts attention
– It’s not something we organized! We were invited to this and had no idea what to expect other than that the three wise men would come and distribute gifts to children living in our area. The criticism is completely misdirected. No one in our family organized this.
Expressen also writes that Perrelli also shared his opinions in a post on Instagram, but the content of the text was later changed. But according to the Swedish newspaper, the artist wrote the following:
LAUNCH: Who will participate in the MGP this year will be announced on Friday 5 January. Many people react to the fact that Israel is one of the countries that will be allowed to participate when the competition moves to the Eurovision Song Contest. see more
“We did not ordain the three wise men and therefore we have nothing to do with the appearance and the choice of skin color. On the kings. We were only invited to this celebration because where we live it is celebrated like this.”
