Criticism of PP and PML-N President for not convening National Assembly meeting

Pakistan Muslim League-N and Pakistan People’s Party have criticized President Arif Alvi for not calling a meeting of the National Assembly yet.

PML-N Senator and former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar while talking to journalists in the Punjab Assembly today said that if the President does not call a meeting on the summary, the Speaker can constitutionally call the meeting himself on February 29.

“It is very clear in the constitution that if the meeting is not called, the speaker has the authority to call the meeting on the 21st day.”

He said that according to the constitutional deadline of 21 days, February 29 is the last date. Even in the provinces, if the governor does not call the meeting, the same rule will be applied there too.

Ishaq Dar said that the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has sent a summary to the President of the country to convene a meeting of the National Assembly.

Ata Tarar, the leader of Muslim League-N, said in the press conference that the President could not do justice to his position and oath, he could not take any decision about the National Assembly session yet.

According to Atta Tarar: ‘The President’s House is currently a hotbed of conspiracies. The President has become a PTI worker to harm democracy.’

He said that the meeting of the National Assembly will be held on February 29.

Similarly, People’s Party leader Shazia Murri alleged that the President is misusing the powers by delaying the convening of the new National Assembly session.

In his statement, he said that it is important for the President to call a meeting of the National Assembly without any delay on the summary of the Prime Minister.

He said that the President should follow the Constitution instead of ‘one man’s orders’.

He further said that Arif Alvi is the same president who tried to unconstitutionally dissolve the assembly in the past as well.

“Arif Alvi’s violation of the constitution and abuse of office will remain a part of history.”

Pakistan Muslim League-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui said in a conversation with Geo News that Article 91 of the Constitution clearly states that the meeting of the National Assembly must be held within 21 days after the general elections.

He said that President Alavi is not doing this for the first time, he has had this attitude till now. He never played the role of a neutral president.
