Argentine former president Cristina Fernández requested Justice on Wednesday to comply with the sentence of six years in prison for the crime of fraudulent administration, ratified on Tuesday by the Supreme Court, at her home in the Barrio de Constitución, in Buenos Aires. In addition, the Court ratified the 5 -day period for the Peronist leader to be notified, thus rejecting a request from the Prosecutor’s Office that sought to accelerate the process.
Through his lawyer, Alberto Beraldi, Fernández presented to the Federal Criminal Court No. 2 – who in 2022 condemned it for irregularities in the granting of road works – the request to fulfill the penalty in his residence, given that he is over 70 years old and is eligible for that benefit, and indicates that the proposed domicile is the one currently inhabited by the Peronist leader in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Constitution.
“That our represented be authorized to fulfill the deprivation of liberty imposed in records under the modality of house arrest,” says the letter, known a day after the Supreme Court made the sentence to six years in prison and perpetual disqualification of the exercise of public offices against Fernández, which has a period of 5 business days to appear before the courts firm.
“We are not asking for privileges”
“We are not asking for privileges, but the same treatment as any other person in the same legal situation is given,” Beraldi told the media, while another Fernández lawyer, Gregorio Dalbón, traveled to The Hague (Netherlands) to denounce before the International Criminal Court a “political persecution” against the main opponent of the ultraliberal government Javier Milei.
“This condemnation is the result of a vitiated process, addressed since its origin to achieve a political objective: to outline the woman who won the most times at the polls from democratic recovery,” Dalbón wrote on Network X (Twitter), announcing that he will also go to the Inter -American Commission on Human Rights.
Meanwhile, the Court rejected an order made by the Prosecutor’s Office to immediately stop the policy, and ratified the five -day term Fernández has to appear before justice. In case of breach of said instruction, judges may order their arrest. Source: news
