Clarissa Hilsham-Brown loves fun, funny and also exciting ideas. For example, what if she woke up one day to find a dead body in the house? But sometimes dreams come true… and so one rainy afternoon in March he actually discovers a soulless body in the drawing room of his country house. But at the most inopportune time – this is where Clarissa’s husband, an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is headed with a prominent politician. A scandal threatens and Clarisse has no choice but to dispose of the corpse as soon as possible. Plus, it looks like someone particularly near and dear to Clarisse has been murdering. What now? What’s more, Clarisse manages to persuade the three guests present to help her with this “problem”. Immediately, however, the police arrive. And the hidden body soon disappears…

The Spider, Agatha Christie’s detective comedy, was first performed in 1954, after the highly successful plays The Mousetrap and The Accused Witness (the Czech edition of all three can be found in the collection Detektivni hry, Knižní klub, 2012), almost 50 years later, Charles Osborne created its novelization , intended for all lovers of the author’s exciting and funny stories. And now comes the Audioteka with a dramatization that most of all reminds of the good old (best) days of radio plays. Directed by Daniel Tůma Andrea Elsnerová (Clarissa Hailsham-Brownová), Otakar Brousek took on the role (Sir Rowland Delahaye), Marek Holý (Inspector Lord), Jan Nedbal (Jeremy Warrender), Jaromír Meduna (Hugo Birch), Barbora Vágnerová (Pippa Hailsham-Brown), Lucie Kožinová (Miss Mildred Peake), Aleš Procházka (Henry Hailsham-Brown), Zbyšek Horák (Elgin) and Aleš Bílík (Oliver Costello).

Listen to a sample of the Spider’s story:
Agatha Christie’s cleverly crafted screenplay is full of twists and turns that will keep you in suspense as you try to unravel the web of deception and motives that envelop the characters. In the Czech version, they managed to put together a great voice cast that you don’t have an audience for, you always know which character is “on stage”. Each of the actors brought the right ingredients to their roles. Without expensive sets, costumes and decorations, you will immerse yourself in the period atmosphere and enjoy the authenticity of the experience. Cobweb pleasantly combines suspense and revelation in the style of the British queen of detective stories. The cobweb in Audiotek’s processing brings a genuine theatrical experience wherever you are.
