Cricket: The BCCI announced the schedule for the 2024-25 domestic season on Thursday, June 6. In an innovative move, the BCCI removed the toss from the CK Nayudu Trophy. The BCCI also announced that the Ranji Trophy will begin in October this season. The season will begin with red-ball cricket, including the prestigious Duleep Trophy. The four teams selected by the Senior Men’s Selection Committee will take part in the Duleep Trophy, starting in Anantapur on September 5. This will be followed by the Irani Cup and the Ranji Trophy, with the first five league matches. After this, white-ball tournaments will take over, starting with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy followed by the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The tournament will resume with the final two league matches, culminating in the knockout stages. The BCCI said in a press release, “The 2024-25 domestic season has been carefully planned, taking into account several factors to strengthen the core of domestic cricket while prioritising the well-being of the players. The team will feature teams selected by the CK Nayudu Trophy. CK Nayudu Trophy A revised points system has been introduced in the CK Nayudu Trophy with the aim of promoting balanced performances. This includes points being awarded for batting and bowling skills in the first innings, as well as for gaining a lead in the first innings or winning outright. An in-depth review will be undertaken after the season to evaluate the effectiveness of the new points system, which may be implemented in the Ranji Trophy for subsequent seasons. Toss Elimination In an innovative move, the toss will be abolished for CK Nayudu Trophy matches. Instead, the visiting team will be given the privilege of choosing whether to bat or bowl first.
