Crashes of trains into fallen trees are increasing! Wind, branches and stones blocked other connections in the Czech Republic

Due to the weather, traffic on eight lines in the Czech Republic was interrupted around 5:45 p.m. follows from the information of the Czech Railways (ČD). The most common cause was a tree falling on the tracks.

At the same time, the carrier drew attention to interruption of traffic on the line Salzburg – Villach in Austria due to heavy snowfall. Firefighters from the Railway Administration reported that from noon to 6:00 p.m. today, they went to 15 weather-related incidents, mainly in the Liberec region.

90 evacuated passengers in Náchodsk

In Náchodsk this afternoon, an express train ran into a fallen tree, no one was injured. Firefighters evacuated about 90 passengersthey reported on the website.

Trains in eastern Bohemia do not even run between Trutnov-střed station and Malé Svatoňovice, where the train stopped in front of a fallen tree.

A train in Jičín also ran into a tree

In the afternoon, a train between Jičín and Libun ran into a tree that had fallen onto the track. The same complication exists between Kunčice nad Labem and Martinice in the Giant Mountains in Trutnovsk.

A train on the Tábor – Horní Cerekev line had to stop before a tree fell on the trackin the section between Obratání and Chýnov. Replacement bus service is being provided, the railways said.

Due to the flood situation, trains are also standing on the line between Břeclaví and Lednice. According to ČD, replacement bus transport will not be introduced.

The weather also causes problems in central Bohemia. Between Jílový u Prahy and Týnec nad Sázavou, stones loosened from the slope fell onto the tracks. A passing passenger train had only to stop in front of the obstacle. No one was injured, the Railway Administration said.

The Opava River has not yet spilled its full force into the largest Opava housing estate, Kateřinky. But the situation can change. The town hall, which ordered the evacuation there, sent SMS messages to the mobile phones of all people living there to leave the area. About 12,000 people live in Kateřinky, i.e. almost a fifth of Opava’s population.

The river bed is full. Water has already spilled in some smaller locations. “Otherwise, however, the water remains in the trough for now. But the level has yet to rise,” said Roman Konečný, spokesman for the Opava municipality, after 05:00 CTK.


In South Moravia overnight, there were more places with the third flood level, which indicates danger. This applies, for example, to Morava in Strážnice and Velička in Velká nad Velička in Hodonínskflows from data on the websites of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute and the Moravian River Basin. Rain and wind limit train and bus transport, which mainly affects the northern part of the region.

The level of the Morava in Strážnice crossed the 6.6 meter mark in the morning. A few days ago, there was only a meter of water in the trough. The Velička in Velká nad Velička has been rising sharply since 3:00 a.m. today, and around 5:00 a.m. it approached the limit of extreme flooding.


The town hall in Český Těšín in Karvinsk ordered the evacuation of the city center and Na Olšinách street. People are supposed to move to the elementary school on Slezská Street. The level of the Olša River in Český Těšín has risen by almost three meters in the last 24 hours. The flow increased the most from midnight. The first stage was valid there at 01:00. The third was announced an hour later.

“It is a large area from the river Olša to the slaughterhouse. It affects several thousand people. We assume that some of them will go to the safety of their relatives. The others are to move to ZŠ Slezská. We are preparing other evacuation centers,” said city spokeswoman Nataša Cibulková.
