“Critical equipment identified by investigators has been recovered, including the voice and data recorder often called the ‘black box,’” a U.S. Army Special Operations Command (AFSOC) communications official said.

“The equipment will be transported to laboratories for data extraction, which will then be analyzed by AFSOC,” he said, adding that he expected the analysis process to take “several weeks.”

The bodies of seven crew members had previously been found and search operations are still underway to find the eighth, AFSOC said.

The Osprey, a plane that can take off and land vertically like a helicopter and fly like a plane, crashed on November 29 not far from the Japanese island of Yakushima during a training mission.

The reliability of this car has long been debated due to numerous fatal accidents.
