Councilor injured after stepping on a mine belonging to FARC dissidents

The Carlos Patiño column is part of the Central General Staff (EMC), the largest dissident of the FARC, commanded by alias ‘Iván Mordisco’.

The Micay canyon and towns like El Plateado, in the municipality of Argeliahave become one of the stumbling blocks in the peace negotiations between the Government and the EMC.

This is an area, like many others in the country, where the presence of the State is symbolic, not only militarily, but socially and economically, so Armed groups have gained power and have established themselves as territorial authority.

The troops deployed actions to provide first aid to Councilor Ordóñezwhile the Colombian Air Force (FAC) took the injured man out of the area in a medical aircraft and then took him to a hospital in Cali, the capital of the neighboring department of Valle del Cauca.

The attacks of this dissident have intensified in that region of the country after last March the Government suspended the bilateral ceasefire in the departments of Nariño, Cauca and Valle del Cauca due to guerrilla violence against indigenous people and against public forces.

In response, the Army has increased its offensive operations in recent months in Cauca, which has become one of the stumbling blocks in peace negotiations between the Government and the EMC.
