Microsoft is clear about its goal: Copilot will be part of users’ daily activities. To achieve this, it has made several decisions, such as modifying the computer keyboard to include a hotkey for the chatbot and recently announced that it is testing its automatic launch when people turn on their PC.

According to a recent company post, aimed at Windows Insiders, the company is testing Copilot to automatically open on “widescreen devices.” This test is carried out among some users of the Windows 11 development channel and the final implementation will depend on the results obtained in that testing phase.

Specifically, the chatbot’s automatic opening is being tested on devices with a minimum screen diagonal of 27 inches and a pixel width of 1920. Additionally, this functionality will be limited to primary displays in multi-monitor setups.

While the reason for the restriction to wide devices was not specified, Microsoft may be targeting users who have ultrawide monitors, where the resolution and working space are larger, so as not to affect the startup experience, which some people might find annoying.

It is important to note that these tests carried out by Microsoft in the Windows Insider development channel do not guarantee the final implementation of this new feature or that the option is close to arriving, as for now it is only in the testing phase.

Users who have access to the new feature can disable it at any time by going to Settings > Personalization > Copilot from their PC and clicking the disable autostart button.

The company led by Satya Nadella has invested millions of dollars in OpenAI, and its chatbot uses the latest language model from the creators of ChatGPT, so given the birth of the Copilot brand and the change of Bing Chat, the company tried to bring this chatbot to various scenarios.

It initially started including it in Windows 11 as an assistant that pops up on the side of the screen and to which you can make content generation requests. It has also brought this technology to products like Office 365, Bing, Teams, and the Azure cloud computing service.

It launched the app for Android and iOS devices in late 2023, and it was recently announced that upcoming computers from manufacturers associated with the company will change a keyboard button to include a shortcut for Copilot.

This addition will replace the menu key (also known as the application key), which was introduced decades ago alongside the Windows button. It will be found next to the right Alt key on most keyboards, although its location will vary depending on the manufacturer and market.

Yusuf Mehdi, executive vice president and director of consumer marketing at Microsoft, assured that 2024 will be “the year of PCs with artificial intelligence” and for this reason they want to provide users with all the possible tools to access Copilto, which is their tool principal. placed in front of consumers, allowing them to generate content, carry out searches and receive support in the daily use of their computers.

“In this new year, we will usher in a significant shift towards a more personal and intelligent computing future where artificial intelligence is seamlessly integrated into Windows, from system to hardware. This will not only simplify people’s computing experience, but also amplify it,” the manager said.
